During its plenary session on Wednesday,
the European Parliament backed an initiative of the European Commission for a
European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
This office would investigate and
prosecute offences against the EU budget across Europe.
Negotiations with Member States on the
issue are ongoing, but might prove difficult. 14 national parliamentary
chambers have questioned the proposal’s compliance with the principle of
subsidiarity via the ‘yellow card’ procedure.
